Although male girdles aren't nearly as popular as those for women, there are some men out there who want or need this type of shaping undergarment. For example, men who have had certain types of surgery may need a compression garment. Sometimes men want this type of garment for the same reasons most women do. They want to look and feel more confident in their clothing. They may have tried diet and exercise but still don't have the midsection they want. Girdles can help hold in bulging bellies and create a smoother appearance.

Some men may find extra firm compression uncomfortable at first. You may want to try a size larger than you would normally wear if this is an issue for you. Many girdles for men look like high waisted bike shorts and may also provide firm support for the back, buttocks and thighs also.

Many men's girdles offer extra support through the midsection to help hold it in. They may also feature snaps at the crotch area for convenience and comfort. Other types of shaping garments made for men include vests, body suits, briefs, tanks, shirts and more. While you will probably not find very many choices in stores you will find lots of them online. The only thing about buying these undergarments online is that you can't try them on first. Therefore, measure your body and go by the sizing guidelines provided by the manufacturer.

For example, male girdles may need to be a size larger than what the wearer would normally choose. Some men aren't even sure of their ideal size and have been wearing ill fitting apparel because they haven't been properly measured. One thing about girdles is that they are tight, so a size up isn't going to make a big deal. You certainly don't want to get a size too small because that would be too tight and probably very uncomfortable. Many men feel uncomfortable with the whole idea of wearing a girdle. The good news is that today's girdles for men are made to be undetectable under clothing so no one will know you are wearing one.
